The territory of Frascati belongs to the historic area of the Castelli Romani, in the current territory of the Metropolitan City of Rome; peculiarly, Frascati is located on the Alban Hills (the ancient volcanic system otherwise known as the Laziale Volcano) below Mount Tuscolo, is crossed by the Via Tuscolana and offers an almost dominant and prestigious position with respect to Rome.

A city that has always been particularly important, especially for its Tuscolan Villas as well as for the production of highly recognized local wines at national and international level, Frascati is one of the symbol cities of the Castelli Romani, from a historical point of view and, nowadays, for tourism and attractiveness, with numerous monuments and attractions.

The oldest and most noteworthy archaeological finds date back to the Roman era; some documents relating to the Middle Ages define Frascati as a small urban agglomeration located halfway between the famous Tusculum and the City. It was just after the destruction of Tusculum in 1191 that the population increased significantly and the seat of the diocese passed from Tusculum to Frascati.

It was called by the name of Tusculum until the twelfth century, then changing to Frascati probably due to the frequent use of "branches" as timber by the local citizens. It was a fief of the noble Colonna family until 1798 when it became a twinned republic with that of Rome. During the Second World War, the city was bombed several times, losing many of its main monuments and villas.

Over the years Frascati has become more and more a popular destination for tourists, it is often also considered the classic destination for the "trip out of town", organized by those who live in Rome and who come to Frascati to regenerate and share a day with their family different.

Rich in natural areas, in Frascati there is a lot of greenery, parks, archaeological sites and a wonderful viewpoint that, especially on fine days, offers breathtaking views of Rome and the areas overlooking the capital. Immersed in a splendid Italian garden, it is made unique by the grandiose nymphaeum of 2500 square meters with beautiful fountains and terraces on several levels.

The Villa has an internal capacity of up to 300 people and an external capacity of up to 2000, making it ideal for organizing large outdoor events, public events, gala dinners and ceremonies with a large number of guests. There is the possibility of mounting tensile structures to be able to dine indoors in all weather conditions, enjoying the splendid view of the nymphaeum and the fountains.

The catering service is personally supervised by Stefanina Aldobrandini who for over 20 years in the numerous palaces, villas, castles at its disposal succeeds thanks to highly qualified personnel and the use of tablecloths, porcelain, antique silverware and period liveries to recreate a atmosphere of splendor and efficiency that recalls the hospitality of the great private houses of yesteryear.

Villa Aldobrandini extends over a series of high and regular terraces, and on one in particular stands the palace. The main facade of the building, full and severe, in line with the style of Giacomo della Porta, marked vertically by pilasters, and ends in the central part with an elevation enclosed by a huge broken tympanum.

Below two bases support as many terraces-walkways, with two slender fireplaces in the form of oval towers. The terrace located in front of the building surrounded by a double ramp. The rear facade is characterized by a projecting forepart that rises upwards and ends with a triangular tympanum, thus constituting a sort of observatory for the fountains and water features of the upper part of the garden. The interior was conceived with a careful study of the proportions of the rooms, with a basement reserved for cellars as well as for the service gentlemen's lodgings and with an oval-shaped snail staircase that leads to the floors. It is possible to access the main floor by means of the staircase or directly from the entrance of the rear facade.

A vestibule with a side chapel precedes the large hall which occupies the central part of the floor while the rooms are located on the sides of the hall. The walls of the hall, decorated in the first half of the eighteenth century by Amnesio de Barba of Massa Carrara, are embellished with grass sauce paintings in the guise of tapestries depicting the Officina di Vulcano and Parnassus. The vault frescoed with the Triumph of the Casa Pamphili. This hall preserves the famous bronze bust depicting Clement VIII Aldobrandini, the work of Taddeo Landini (1550-96), and a large fireplace, characterized by a broken tympanum bearing an inscription with the name of Pietro Aldobrandini. Five of the rooms on this floor were painted by Cavalier d'Arpino, and depict images of a biblical nature, while other walls are covered with richly decorated ancient Korans. The chapel, dedicated to St. Sebastian, was frescoed by Giovanni Piancastelli from Bologna.

The upper floor housed the rooms for the staff in the service of Pietro Aldobrandini, while the top floor, luxuriously furnished and with a central hall with coffered, housed the rooms reserved for guests. Behind the palace we meet the Teatro delle Acque, consisting of a vast hemicycle flanked by two rectilinear bodies, which has niches with columns and hollows, decorated with caryatids and other reliefs, made by Ippolito Buti (1604-5). The niches of the hemispherical part contain statues created by Jacques Sarrazin, each of which preceded by a jet of water. The central niche is distinguished by the presence of an Atlas that supports the world.

From the basin located in front of the central niche emerges the statue of the giant Enceladus, who noisily threw water from his mouth. As indicated by Monsignor Giovan Battista Agucchi, secretary of Cardinal Pietro Aldobrandini, in his writing "Relatione", the Atlas alluded to Clement VIII and the statue of Hercules in the act of helping him referred to Pietro Aldobrandini. The Hesperides remembered their mythical and fabulous garden, which by transposition was compared to that of the Villa Aldobrandini. The myth of Hercules still returned to the top of the villa which could be explored with the eye from the palace.

In the left side arm of the Teatro delle Acque there is the chapel dedicated to S. Sebastiano, the patron saint of the Aldobrandini, decorated with paintings by Domenico and Tommaso Passignano. In the right arm we find, instead, the room of Apollo (1615-18), whose vault has decorations made by Domenico Passignano.

The construction of the hydraulic devices is due to Giovanni Guglielmi. While the frescoes depicting the "Ten Stories of Apollo" are the work of Domenichino, who availed himself of the help of Viola for the landscapes. The floor decorated with arabesques and elements of the Aldobrandini coat of arms.

Behind the Teatro delle Acque we find the great Scala d’Acqua, limited at the top by two columns symbolizing the Pillars of Hercules, from which the water drops loudly. The sides are crossed by two stairways leading to the upper level. The highest part of the garden was characterized by the Fountain of the Shepherds. Under the palace, in the supporting wall of the oval terrace, there is a large niche, once enriched by a large quantity of water, made by Giocondo Della Porta and the famous fountain-maker Orazio Olivieri, the author of the numerous games of water present in the villa. The villa, in addition to having an evidently Vignolesque influence, is linked, from a planimetric point of view, to Villa Montalto by Domenico Fontana, the courtyard of the Belvedere and the Raphaelesque projects of Villa Madama. Furthermore, it represents the evolution of Renaissance schemes at the dawn of the Baroque.
The history of Casale Marchese has very ancient roots. Our journey begins in 1301, the date on which the Casale was mentioned in a Bull of Boniface VIII as part of the fiefdom of the Annibaldi family.

Now close your eyes and imagine the cultural and artistic rebirth of Italy. We make a time jump of about 250 years. We are in the middle of the Renaissance period, a period in which the Casale became the home of an illustrious person, the son of a close friend of Caravaggio: we are talking about the Marquis Emilio de 'Cavalieri (1550-1602), Italian composer and organist.

The name "Casale del Marchese" still derives from the Marquis de 'Cavalieri.

Over the centuries to come, no trace of the estate has ever been lost, mentioned in various official documents such as the Papal Land Registry of 1860. The artistic vocation of the Casale, which began with the Marquis de 'Cavalieri, has continued over time. The estate has inspired artists, poets and writers such as Clara Wells, who reports it in 1878 in one of her books.

Our history is now closer to today's times. The Carletti family has owned the Casale Marchese farm for about two centuries. Ours is a family tradition that, for two hundred years, has been renewed every day.

Alessandro and Ferdinando are the seventh generation; the oldest, Alessandro, is the administrator, while the youngest, Ferdinando, is the agronomist of the company.

The family had two illustrious cardinals: Ludovico Micara (1775-1847) and Clemente Micara (1879-1965), to whom the “Clemens” wine is dedicated.

The current appearance of the Casale dates back to the 18th century. One part of the building is the home of the Carletti family, while the other wing is used for wine production. A part of the farmhouse has been recently renovated and given new life: it is in this space that we have built a modern and technologically advanced cellar.

In our farmhouse the old and the new come together, creating a unique balance of tradition, culture and family love. You can immerse yourself in this atmosphere in the ancient cellar, which dates back to the late 1700s, where we host our tasting room.

Our production has been going on with love for two centuries and every year brings with it elements of renewal. All the vinification, bottling and packaging processes are done here, in our Casale. We also produce an extra virgin olive oil exclusively with olives from our estate.
