Quad excursion in the beech forest of Oriolo (Bracciano Lake)
Driving an off-road quad bike is a fun and adrenaline-pumping activity, doing it in one of the most beautiful areas of central Italy, on Lake Bracciano, will be an even more incredible experience for nature and motor lovers.
The quad excursion will take place inside the Bracciano-Martignano Regional Natural Park, about 30 km from Rome. The area is full of routes suitable for 4-wheelers in full respect of the environment, near the lake, with views of great beauty and abundant wildlife.
In particular, we will go into the beech forest of Oriolo Romano, a UNESCO heritage site, an ancient beech forest that has remained intact over time thanks to the microclimate of the lake. Ready to warm up your engines?
We will meet in Trevignano Romano (RM) and first we will do a briefing and a test drive. Once our level has been established, the guides will decide on which route variant to carry out the excursion. After that, we will leave for the Faggeta di Oriolo Romano, a truly unique place for its position. In fact, beech forests usually arise between 700 and 900 meters above sea level. Here we are only 450 m a.s.l., yet there is one of the most luxuriant beech forests in Europe.
The influence of the lake, with its microclimate and wet currents, guarantee luxuriance and offer an ideal habitat for many species of wild animals, such as hawks, foxes, wild boars or turtles. We will meet many of them along the way, so watch out for the accelerator!
We will pass on paths, dirt and dirt roads, we will cross particularly rough and full of holes, to have fun and make the most of the potential of quads. We will stop at different viewpoints to take some photos and try forest therapy, hug a tree and be charged with positive energy!
Once out of the beech forest, we will stop at the bar to have a drink and then we will continue to the town of Bracciano. Souvenir photo with the lake behind and return to the meeting point. The activity lasts 4 hours in total. For almost the entire route, the quad group will be followed by an assistance vehicle for any eventuality.
This activity is of an easy level and is open to everyone.
Driving the quad is allowed to people aged 18 to 70 in possession of a driving license B and in good physical condition. It is allowed to bring on board the quad, as passengers, adults and children from 3 years old.
Before departure, all participants will be required to sign a liability release form (parents must sign for minors).
A forest that seems enchanted, and takes us as if by magic into the atmospheres narrated by Tolkien in the famous novel The Hobbit. Just an hour's drive from Rome, the Beech Forest of Monte Raschio (Unesco World Heritage Site since 2017) in Oriolo Romano, represents an ideal ecosystem for those who love contact with nature in the name of silence and detox.
Beeches, pines, chestnuts and a great variety of mushrooms represent the scenery of this forest not far from Lake Bracciano. The beech forest of Oriolo, which belongs precisely to the Regional Natural Park of the Bracciano Martignano lake complex, is very ancient and has not undergone any changes over the centuries. There are a total of 63 beech forests in twelve countries recognized as Unesco World Natural Heritage: among these, ten are in Italy and extend from Tuscany to Calabria. The one of Monte Raschio in Oriolo Romano, as we specified, is part of the Bracciano-Martignano Regional Park: here the particularly humid microclimate, favored by groundwater and currents coming from Lake Bracciano, has meant that the beech forest developed only 450 meters high, instead of the usual 700/900 meters.
Mount Raschio, the fulcrum of the wonderful beech forest, has an altitude of 562 meters and is considered one of the main hills of the Sabatini Mountains. The trails on the Raschio can be covered on foot but also by mountain bike. In this period of the year, to the delight of young and old, chestnuts can be harvested. The beech forest can be accessed from various entrances. The nearby village of Oriolo Romano deserves a visit, with the gardens of Palazzo Altieri, nowadays Polo Museale del Lazio. Among the most photographed corners of the village are the complex of tree-lined avenues, called Olmate, and the Fontana delle Picche, the work of Jacopo Barozzi da Vignola.
